China Tells

Fortune: Obama is the first Amercan president in the last 20 years to use WTO Section 421 to penalize China. All the former presidents are well aware of such a section but all opt to pass for the ‘bigger picture’. According to the statement of White House, Obama’s decision is to show that the government is determined to enforce the trade laws and encourage open policy for free trade. Therefore the government chooses a ‘million dollar sector’ to avoid any sizable mess, even though there are still American companies who own tire factories in China being hurt. According to Mr. Obama, China is not a friend, nor an enemy. China is a competitor. Such a mentality might dominate the American policy towards China in the coming four years.
