China’s Iron Ore import and production sees a robust recovery in Sept 2009. The domestic production increased by 67% y-o-y and reached 65 million tons, while the imports increased by 29% y-o-y and reached almost 84 million tons. Such a rebound is also a strong recovery from August 2009, when China’s iron ore industry took a break. China’s world’s biggest user of iron ore and imports more than 50% of world’s total iron ore shipped. Therefore China’s importing pace has a significant impact on world’s freight index (BDI).
