China’s healthcare expenditure is quite low compared to most advanced economies in terms of expenditure per capita or the portion in GDP. On a per capita basis, China spends about $94 in health care, compared to $6719 in USA. In addition, about 4.6% of China’s GDP goes into Health care expenditure, compared to 15.3% in USA (by the way, I think US government is aware that 15% of GDP into healthcare is ridiculously high and they are trying to bring this number down). Among BRICs, only India spends less on healthcare than China. With the industrialization process in China going on, we are likely to see China’s healthcare expenditure to go up in the coming years.
