China has officially opened a natural gas pipeline with Turkumanstan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan (See Article from China Daily). The pipeline will be around 1833 Kilometers long, which is the longest gas pipeline in the world. The pipeline starts from Turkumanstan and goes through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan and ends in Xin Jiang of China. Such a pipeline will be able to supply China with about 40 Billion Cubic meters of Natural gas annually from 2012 onwards. For the moment China consumes slightly less than 80 Billion Cubic Meters of Gas every year. The pipeline from Turkumanstan will help China to reduce reliance on coal, which is carbon intensive and heavily pollutant. In addition, such a pipeline provides Central Asia countries with decent offtake of their resource.
