China’s GDP growth has been outstanding among the three big economies in East Asia (China, Japan and South Korea). However, it seems that the Chinese consumers’ appetite has not been growing at the same pace as ecnomic growth. According to a latest study, China’s consumption/GDP ratio has been in a consistent downtrend from 55% to 36% during the last 20 years. As a contrast, the consumption/GDP ratio of South Korea and Japan have been stable between the range of 50% and 60%. Apparently the country’s economy has grown much faster than consumer’s appetite to spend more.
