What’s the secret of China’s economic growth in the last two decades? Such is a question that has bothered numerous economists. One of the answers seems to lie in the increase in productivity. According to a latest study, China’s productivity, measured by the manufacturing labor unit cost, has decreased steadily since 1992. To be debased as 100 in 1992, the latest labor unit cost in 2010 is around 40, which is 60% lower than the cost in 20 years ago.
